ORDINANCE NO. 307
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 5 OF THE LOS ALTOS HILLS
MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING THERETO CHAPTER 7 ENTITLED
"CONSTRUCTION OF BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES" REGULATING
HOURS OF WORK
The City Council of the City of the Town of Los Altos Hills,
County of Santa Clara, State of California, DOES ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION 1. AMENDMENT OF CODE.
Chapter 7 entitled "Construction of Buildings and Structures"
hereby is added to Title 5 of the Los Altos Hills Municipal Code
to read as follows:
CHAPTER 7. CONSTRUCTION OF BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES.
Section 5-7.01. DEFINITIONS - As used in this Chapter
(a) "Construction" or "Repair" each shall mean and in-
clude the transportation or delivery of any materials,
tools or equipment to or from the site of any construc-
tion project, or the unloading or use of such materials,
tools or equipment at such site.
(b) "Public Holiday" shall mean the day upon which
each of the following holidays is recognized and cele-
brated as a holiday by the employees of the City of
the Town of Los Altos Hills:
New Year's Day,
Memorial Day,
Independence Day,
Labor Day,
Veterans Day,
Thanksgiving Day, and
Christmas Day.
Section 5-7.02. OUTSIDE CONSTRUCTION OR REPAIR WORK;
WHEN PROHIBITED; EMERGENCY WORK EXCEPTION. It shall be
unlawful for any person within a residential zone, or within a

radius of five hundred (500) feet therefrom, to operate equipment
or perform any outside construction or repair work on any building,
structure, project, or to use any pneumatic hammer, steam or elec-
tric hoist, backhoe, bulldozer or dump truck or other construction
type device, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. of one day and 8:00 a.m.
of the next succeeding day on any Monday through Friday, or be-
tween the hours of 6:00 p.m. on any Friday and 9:00 a.m. on any
Saturday, or at any time on any Sunday, and at any time on any pub-
lic holiday, unless beforehand a permit therefor has been obtained
in accordance with the provisions of this Chapter. No permit shall
be required to perform emergency work in the event of an emergency
which imperils the public safety. This Section shall not apply to
the use of domestic power tools as specified in Section 5-7.03.
Section 5-7.03. DOMESTIC POWER TOOLS. A homeowner who individ-
ually undertakes, to maintain or improve his property and or residence
may operate or permit the operation of domestic power tools, such as,
any mechanically powered saw, sander, drill, grinder, lawn or garden
tool, or similar tool between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and sunset on
any Monday through Friday or between 9:00 a.m. and sunset on any Sat-
urday and Sunday. Provided that any such operation is limited to the
improvements or maintenance undertaken by the homeowner himself.
Section 5-7.04. PERMIT; PROCEDURE. A permit may be issued
authorizing work prohibited by Section 5-7.02 whenever it is found
that the public interest will be served thereby. An application for
a permit shall be in writing, shall be accompanied by an application
fee in an amount to be set by Resolution of the City Council, and
shall set forth in detail the facts showing that the public interest

will be served by the issuance of the permit.
Applications shall be made to the Director of Public Works
who shall be responsible for the administration and enforce-
ment of this Section and shall have the authority to issue such
permits.
SECTION 2. VIOLATION; MISDEMEANOR. A violation of this Ordinance
shall be punishable by a fine of not more than five hundred dollars
($500), or by imprisonment in the County Jail for a period of not
exceeding six (6) months, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
SECTION 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. POSTING. This Ordinance shall be in
full force and effect thirty (30) days from and after its passage,
and shall be posted within the City of the Town of Los Altos Hills
in three (3) public places.
The within Ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the
City Council of the City of the Town of Los Altos Hills held this
3rd day of Septener , 1986, and was thereafter passed and
enacted at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of the
Town of Los Altos Hills this 17th day of September 1986
by the following roll call vote:
