AN ORDINANCE OF TEE TOWN OF LOS JLTOS HILLS AS TO THE CONTROL OF
CANINES, AND DECLARING AN MRGENCY, TO TAKE EFFECT EvMDIATELY
AND WITH PENALTIES.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION lt The Town of Los Altos Hills does hereby adopt
by reference -those portions of the Santa Clara County Ordinance Code
that pertain to the control of dogs and canines. The specific
sections so adopt(;d are as follows:

SECTION 2: Rabies Control Operator of the County of Salta
Clara as named in the Santa Clara County Ordinance Code is hereby
designated end empowered by the Town of Los Altos Hills with the same
authority and power in the Town of Los Altos Hills as is vested in
said Rabies Control OlDerator within the County of Santa Clara by
said ordinance of the -County of Santa Clara.
SECTION 3: The violation of this Ordinance constitutes a
misdemeanor# punishable by a fine of $300.00, or 30 days in jail,
or both such fine and imprisonment, and furthermore, the County Health
Officer acting as Health Officer in and for the Town of Los Altos Hills
is hereby authorized and directed to enforce the provisions of the
county ordinance code listed above in the Town of Los Altos Hills,
and including such measure of impounding and disposal of animals in
said County Ordinance Code.
SECTION : This Ordinance shall take effect immediately
upon its passage as an emergency measure, being necessary for the
immediate protection of the public health, safety and welfare of
the inhabitants of the Town of Los Altos Hills for the following
reasons;
The Department of Public Health of the State of California
has found that rabies exists in the County of Santa Clara end pursu-
and to law has declared the county a rabies endemic area. To pre-
vent the spread of rabies among aiimals, and to avoid the possibility
of human beings becoming infected with the disease, it is imperative
that all dogs in the Town of Los Altos Hills be vaccinated with
anti -rabies vaccine. It is necessary that this ordinance take effect
at the earliest possible moment to reduce the aboveodescribed danger
of infection and spread of rabies among animals and, possibly, human
beings, and to eliminate the aforementioned hazards which threaten
the public peace, health, and safety.
SECTION 5: This Ordinance shall be posted in three (3)
public places in the Town of Los -Altos Hills and shall take effect
immediately upon passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the Town of
Los Altos Hills this 9th day of July 1956, by
the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen Bledsoe, Dungan, Fowls, Rothwell,
Mayor Treat
