A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS
OPPOSING AND URGING THE DEFEAT OF PROPOSITION 15
WHEREAS Proposition 15, if approved, would remove Article 34 from the
California Constitution which prohibits the development, construction, or
acquisition of any low rent housing project by any city, among others, until
a majority of the electors of the city approve the project; and
WHEREAS the control of local government has been retained in the hands
of the citizens of local governmental entities by the California Constitution;
and
WHEREAS the approval of Proposition 15 would remove from the control of
the citizens of each community the question of whether a low rent housing
project should or should not be approved and would be in direct contradiction
with the principle of local home rule; and
WHEREAS allowing the control of local governmental matters by major
units of goverment, whether on the State or Federal level , would breed
corruption, as well as depriving local citizens of the right to regulate and
decide their future;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the Town of
Los Altos Hills does hereby go on record as being in opposition to Proposition
15 and does hereby urge the voter to vote against its approval .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of Los Altos Hills is hereby
directed to transmit a certified copy of this Resolution forthwith to the
League of California Cities, the Los Altos Town Crier, the Palo Alto Times,
and the San Jose Mercury-News, each of whom is urged to give the widest
possible coverage of the position of the Town of Los Altos Hills on this
Proposition.
