California.

MOTION: Alter: SECOND: Hawley; VOTE: Passel unanimously
COMMUNICATIONS:
Request o£ Vanderveer Voorhees - Mr. Voorhees 1_tter reque:,tcd an in-
dication Prom the Planning Commission as to whether it won]d consider
a variance to the reouirement for a 40 foot right-of-way so that he
could use the 30 foot wide strip which he owns, and which was estab-
lished prior to the formation of the Town. .T'[r. Voorhees stated th-.t
he plans to undertake a subdivision that would put ^bout 13 homes on
his 20 acres, but that with a variance on the roadway, he would be
land] oohed.
The Commission informed Fr. Voorhees that he should submit a mer show-
ing proposed roads and entrances. It will be necessary to provide a
safe access onto E1 Monte, providing for both St. I+iicholas School,
which adjoins, and which has its road immediately adjacent to Mr.
Voorhees' access strip. The Commission will not favor any propos.-^.1
that shows two (2) entrances side-by-side onto El Monte, especially
because of the proximity to the freeway on-ramp. The Commission stated
that development of the land would not be held up because of the 30
foot right-of-way technicality, provided suitable access could be work -
c", out.
2. Mrs. George Hgle, 2000 Foge Mill Road, Polo Alto, represcntj Dg the
ommittee faroGreen Foothills, required that the Los Altos Hills Plan-
ning Commission consider sending a resolution, to be presented at the
meeting of the Palo Alto planning Commission on Wednesday, January 24U

in the foothills areas.
CC'.U`ITTEE REFORTS: idone.
CLD BUSI?;ESS:
1. Master Path Plan.
The Commission continued a discussion of path rlanning problems.
ccetly the Commission sent to the Council a set of "Guidelines for
Flanring Footpaths and Equestrian Trails". The Commission o:ould li-ka
to receive comments of these guidelines from the Council. Cheir=
Boval-r ststed that he is no longer convinced that a clear distinction
can be made between horse trails and p thways, and that any pat'h or
trail must satisfy both kinds of traffic. Comr.issioner Garbett re-
quested that the commission be provided with inform. -tion on :;xisti_rg
Falo Alto, Los Altos, and California State hiking ,nd riding trails,
insofar as they may lead into Los Altos Hills; this information would
be helpful in working on the Master Plan.
NEW BUSIIdESS:
1. Stonebrid e Associates.
proposal for sixty-six (6E) apartment project on six acres o t,.e
3rpden property in Santa Clara County, immediately adjoining Los Altos
Ti 11s.
-pis i ^:d is now zoned for one -acre minimum, but enrries a non -conform-
ing higher density, wit: about ten dwellir_g units. The propos^1 is
' foru the Santa Clara County Planning Commission, who have requested
comments from both the Los Altos fills Council and Planning Comrission.
ACTION:
That a letter be sent to the Santa Clara County '.Tanning Com-
mission expressing the opinion that it would be undesirable to
have this land zoned to give a density that would be at vsr-
iance with that of the surrounding area. ?;e would prefer to
see the zoning hold to one acre minimum, as at present, but
feel that anything less that one-half (i!) care wr uld be highly
undesirable. It was felt that a higher density would be an
attempt at spot zoning without justification and with sericus
corscquences to the surrounding -area.
