March 16, 1963
The Regular Meeting of the Planning Commission of the Town of Los Altos
Hills was called to order Saturday, March 16, 1963 by Chairman Melvin L.
Hawley at 8:45 A. M. at the Town Hall, 26379 Fremont Road, Los Altos Hills,
California.
ROLL CALL: PRESENT: Commissioners Garbett, Mellquist, Hibner, Chairman
Hawley; Commissioner Alter arrived at 9:05 A. K.
ABSENT: Commissioner Prentice,
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: March 7 1963.
Corrections; Page I and continued to Page 2, last
sentence: add the word 'stated'.
Page 2, para. 3, last line: Insert

ACTION:
Adopt Minutes of March 7, 1963 as corrected.

COMMUNICATIONS:
1. Hiller Coordinated Inc. - Brochure on Installation of Underground
utiiltles.
Commissioner Hibner reported that he had read the Brochure, and sug-
gested that it be read by all Commissioners.
Commissioner Alter arrived - 9:05 A. 1%
OLD BUSINESS: None.

1. Voorhees, Vanderveor - Request for Permission to Devc,lop Property With
76 TE:irTy 7 -o'6 -t (50') Right -of -Kay.
Mrs. Voorhees was present.
Chairman Hawley read letter from Mr. Voorhees, dated March �, 1963, in
which he reques—d approval to dcvelop his property with the ozisting
thirty foot (30') road. Sketch of the 15.4 acre sito was enclosed.
Commissioner Mellquist explained that he had made an on sit- inspect-
ion of the property, and suggested that E) solution might be gained by
use of the road on the St. Nicholas property, a public road, serving
the Voorhees property.
Mrs. Voorhees explained that they would like to sell the property and

would like to be assured of access for subdivision.
4br Following discussion, Chairman Hawley explained to Mrs. Voorhees,
that in the absence of a subdivision map, the Planning Commission
could not recommend approval of the read, but that if 1, subdivision map

'�tion prevent the dev-1ppment of the property.
Commissioners Muliquist, Alt�,r, Hibner and Prentice were appointed
as a Committee to approach St. Nicholas Church and Mr. Clausson, ad-
joining property owner, west of the Voorhees road, relative to de-
voloping the road on the St. Nicholas property as a public road, to
be used wh-n the Voorhees and Clauss�n properties ar� developed.
Commissioner Mcllqui�31d was a�ked to Ch,�ir the Committee.

The Chairman reviewed the application and stated that all property
owners within throe hundred foot (500') radius of the property signed
as having no objection to the variance.
RECO�ZTENDATION:
That tho request of T. E. Sege (V -139 -GA) for reduction in
setback requirement to 20' be approved.

Revised Eap of the property was presented which was det�=ined to be
in conformance with the reQuests made at the m�etinG of March 4, 196�7,.
The Agreement for maintenance a" the privato road was read by th�
.Chairman, and was declared to be inadequate in that it did not stat�
who would determine when repairs should bo made on the road.
Chair= Hawley offered his assistanc,- to TIr. Wolff in providing a
covenant for maintenance of the road.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Revised Tentative Map of George LalmQuiot (249-63)
5 lots be approved, subject to the conditions of the Ch,�ck List
and a revised deed restriction regarding maint�nance of the
privato road.

Commissioner Hibner suggested that the Check List be compl-t��d; that
�ach of the Commissioners make an on site inspection, and if it is
felt th-t there are problems, that they be called to the attention or
the Council.
,uestion was regarding access for the Seward property, but it was
detcrmincd that there could be no Dccess through the BorE-Gilbert
property.
The Ch�ck List was completc�d and r�viowed.

Revised Map wos presented and the revisions werc explained by Pr. Riley.
Chairman Hawley point�d out that further subdivision of the property
would be impossible, specifically the. parc��l designat,�d �s 'Not a
Part of th� Subdivision', due to the width of the road.
Commisajoner Mellquist discussed the problems of fire ha�.ards in
densely wooded areas, and suggestud that Chi -f Bassett be asked to in-
vestigatc the possibility of a program for a.stabli��hing a 'grown
gr--th' in this area,
It was decid��d that the Firc Chief choald be invited to mc.et with
the planning Commission to discuss fire prot-etion for thQ upper,
steep tr��as of the Town.
Check List was completcd, and roviewcid.
Mr. Riley withdrew his map until the meeting with thQ Fire Chief.

Cheirmcn Hc,)1ey reported on the meeting held Thurad�y, IIarch 14, 1963
by the Councilmen of Los Altos -.nd Los Altos Hills, and explained the
-,grccmont made botwoen the two cities with regard to future annoxa-
tions.
