August 42, 1958
The meeting of the City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills was call-
ed to order Monday, Au�u st 4th, 1958 at 7:50 P. M. by Mayor John M. Fowle
at the Town Hall, 28379 `Jest Fremont Avenue, Los Altos Hills.
ROLL CALL: PRESENT: Councilmen Bledsoe, Clayton, Sherlock, Treat,
Mayor Fowle
ABSENT: None
MINUTES: July 221st, 1958•
Corrections: Page 2, Item it2, OLD BUSINESS: Duvenec : The
Deputy Mayor steppeadowwn=rom the Chair at the
beginning of discussion, and resumed the Chair
after the Action was taken.
Page 2, Item ftl, OLD BUSINESS: Pacchetti, T. J.:
The suggestion was made that the remarks made
by Mr. Henry Trinchero should have been included
in the minutes. The City Clerk commented that
the remarks were taken by the secretary and are
on file.
Page 11 Item 1,1, ANNOUNCEM"3NTS : Should read* The
City Clerk was directed to send a letter to the
Citizens' Committee and also the Los Altos Hillp
Assciation suggesting than they send a repre-
sentative. Discussion was deferred to New
Business.
Page 4, Sheriff's Contract: Action should read,
"That the Mayor be aut or zed to execute this
contract as submitted subject to the concept
based on the authority of our Council that the
Contract is severable."
ACTION:
Adopt the minutes of July 21st, 1958 as corrected.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. Office of the County Counsel ofSanta Clara County - Letter, dated
July , 1958 and signed y JoanSymon, was addressed to the
City Attorney regarding the termination clause of the Agreement
between Los Altos Hills and County of Santa Clara for Sheriff's
Services.

2. County of Santa Clara Office of the Board of Supervisors - Letter,
dated July 31st, 1959 and signed by*R. 01on, lerk o the Board,
announced a meeting to be held August 14b, 1958 at 7:30 P. M. in
the Supervisors' Chambers, 'North lst and Rosa Streets,.San Jose to
discuss the preliminary report submitted by DeLeuw Cather & Company.
Councilman Treat will attend at representative of the City Council,
and Councilman Bledsoe will attend as alternate. Chairman Spain of
the Planning Commission was asked to appoint a representative to
attend. The City Clerk was instructed to notify Mr..Alan Kinkead,
Chairman of Freeway Committee, and to ask him to attend the meeting.
3. Public Utilities Commission - Letter, dated July 21st, 1958 was
regarding hearings on Case No. 6148 to be held in San Francisco on
October 22, 23, and 24, 1958.
The letter will be filed.
4. Hugh L. Monahan - Letter, dated August 3, 1958, presented two pro-
posals for the improvement of South El P?onte Avenue in lieu of pay-
ment of 34,000.
Deferred to New Business.
5. Mayor Thomas B. I - Letter (not dated) presented brief to be
presented by t y of Monte Sereno at the Assembly Interim Com-
mittee on Municipal and County Government.
The City Clerk stated that Mr..James Zischie had declined to attend
as a representative of the Los Altos Assn,,, and also that he had had
word from Mrs. Walter A. Benson, Secretary w that the Los Altos
Assciation did not desire to send a representative.
The Mayor was of the opinion that the Town of Los Altos Hills
should be represented.
Mr. Gardner Bullis commented in favor of the Town having an official
or utofficial representative at tho Assembly..
Discussion ended with the Mayor stating that he would secure a re-
presentative.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Traffic Survey - Recommendations for traffic control on West Fremont
from ras radero to Burke Avenue.
The following report was submitted by the City Clerk:
1, Request County of Santa Clara to replace the present " End
35 Mile" sign for S/W bound traffic on Arastradero with
35 Mile limit.
ov 2. Install "Slow to 20 Miles" on
post with existing inter-
section signs on West vremont for East and West bound traf-
fic at the intersections of Manuella and Miranda Avenues.

3. (a) Install "Stop" sign on 'Jest Fremont for northbound
traffic at Edith Avenue.
(b) Install a "Slow to 20 Miles" sign with an intersection
sign on 'Jest Premont for southbound traffic at Edith
Avenue.
4. (a) Provide "One 'Jay Only" sign on Altos Avenue between
Burke and Wiest !"remont for northbound traffic with ap-
propriate signing.
(b) Provide "One Way Only" sign on West Fremont between
Altos and Burke for southbound traffic, with necessary
signing at intersection of Dearfield for safe flow.
5. (a) Install "Slow to 20 Miles" sign with left curve sign on
Chapin Avenue for southbound traffic.
(b) Install ""Slow to 20 Miles" sign with right curve sign
on Burke Avenue for westbound traffic.
(c) Install "No Thru.Street" sign on westerly side of Chapin
Avenue for westbound Burke Avenue traffic.
In addition to above, the following Safety Striping is recommended:
1. Double line on Burke Avenue from Adobe Creek Bridge westerly
to Burke Circle.
2. Double line on Wsst Fremont from Randall residence, No. 25441
to Edith Avenue.
3. Double line on Edith Avenue from .dobe Creek Bridge to West
Fremont.
4. Continue existing double line on [,Test Fremont westerly from
Miranda Avenue an additional 200 feet.
Following discussion, action was deferred until such time as the
residents in the area proposed for one-way traffic are notified of
the Council's intent to act on these recommendations.

Tentative Map referrals from the Planning Commission.
a) Taaffe, Martin J. (115--58) - 3 lots. Engr. Nolte.
ACTION
That the Council approve the tentative map of Martin J. Taaffe
(115-58) 3 lots.
MOTION: Sherlock; SECOND: Clayton; VOTE: Passed unanimously
Final Maps:
a) Stonebrook Acres (85-57) - 17 lots.' Tract 1724. Engr. Brian.
Mr. John Riley, engineer, was present.

Stonebrook _"Leres cont'd.
The map was approved with Priscilla Vane being 30 feet in
width, with provision that at the time of the Rogers division,
the additional 20 feet will be gained to bring the right of way
width up to 50 feet.
A('TION:
That the Council approve the final map of Stonebrook Acres
(85-57) Tract 1724 of 17 lots.
MOTION: Sherlock; SECOND: Bledsoe; VOTE: Passed unanimously
b) Belenky, Lucas ,&*Elise -(112-58) 2 lots. Engr. Brian.
Mr. Longmire mentioned the fact that Lot #1 of this subdivision
is less than an acre.
Councilman Sherlock stated that it could be approved being a
conditional exception.
ACTION:
That the Council approve the Belenky final map (112-58) 2
lots noting that lot ;y`•1 is a conditional exception.
MOTION: Sherlock; SECOND: Clayton; VOTE: Fassed unanimously
c) Knupfer, Genevieve (107-58) - 2 lots. gr. Reinoehl.
ACTION:
That the Council -approve the final map of Genevieve Knupfer
(107-58) 2 lots.
MOTION: Clayton; SECOND: Bledsoe; VOTE: Passed unanimousl.
2. Road Improvement - Hugh L. Monahan. Deferred from Announcements.
Letter stating the two proposals was reviewed and explained by the
City Engineer.
After discussion it was the concensus of the Council that the mat-
ter should be referred to the City Attorney for his opinion and be
discussed at the next Council Meeting on August 180, 1958.
ORDINANCES:
I. Ordinance #48 - Fixing the amount of revenue from property taxes
deemed necessary to pay the indebtedness of the City and support
its departments for the current year.
The Ordinance was read in its entirety by the City Clerk.
