Treat Monday, April 72, 1958 at 7:45 P. M. at the Town Hall, 26379 West Fremont, Los Altos Hills. ROLL CALL: PRESENT: Fowle, Hoefler, Mayor Treat ABSENT: Bledsoe, Rothwell MINUTES: March jLst, 12 8. Correction: Page 3, Item #4: John D, Cassel: VOTE: Abstained: Bledsoe instead of Hoefler. ACTION: Adopt the minutes of March 31st, 1958 as corrected. CORRBSFONDENCE: 1. McCandless & Jett - Letter was read, dated April 4-P. 1958 from the City Engineer regarding a letter received by his office From John Riley, of the office of L. G. Brian, Civil Engineers, which set forth his understanding of the results of a joint meeting held concerning the improvements of contiguous roads to be made by the Fremont Hills Development Company in all units of Tract 1947. It was agreed that the letter be referred to the original Commit- tee of Councilmen Bledsoe, Fowle, and Hoefler for further study and to be reported on at the next meeting. Councilman Rothwell arrived at 7:50 M. 2. California Hi hw�a Commission - Letter dated April 3rd, 1958 and signedby GN. Coo cr, Assistant Secretary. The dates and time of two public hearings to be held by the Com- mission were announced. May 70, 1958 at 10:00 A. M. in the auditorium of the Fremont High School in Sunnyvale, a meeting will be held for the people in Santa Clara County to express their views on the portion of the route in Santa Clara County. The Council is invited to attend, and present any recommendations with respect to the various loca- tions on which studies have been made. On May 80, 1958 at 10:00 A. M., a meeting will be held in the aud- itorium of the Hillsdale High School in San Mateo for the people .40, of San Mateo County. The letter will be filed. 4-9-58 :..2- 2. Leaizue of California Cities - Letter dated April 41b, 1958 and signed by Richard Laarpe~ nfer, Executive Director and General Coun- sel, was in regard to Flood Damage, and aid which can be applied for by cities affected. The Mayor appointed Clerk and Mr. Martin prehensive report in damage. Report will OLD BUSINESS: 1. The report on Landscaping and Parkways by Mr. George Evans was in- cluded in the report submitted by Councilman Fowle. Comments were made by Councilmen Hoefler and Rothwell, the Mayor, and Commissioner Dawson. The Mayor asked that the Committee continue working and to furnish the Council with information regarding questions arising from time to time. Mr. J. B. Zischke reported that an informal poll had been taken showing that the people in the Town were against having any access roads on to the Freeway. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Palo Alto Unified School District - Letter dated March 2522 1958 an s nedby r :'-?+'. _"foenig;'u$' Business Manager, addressed to the rlanning Commission requesting its approval for the purchase of a building site for proposed Junior High and Elementary Schools on Page Mill Road. Although it was concurred by the City Council and the City Attorney that no action was needed, Commissioners Dawson and Stedman stated that it was the request of the Planning Commission that -the --Council sanction its recommendation. ACTION: That the action of the Planning Commission, endorcing the re- quest of the Palo Alto School Board with respect to the sixty-two and one-half (6236) acres of the property of Mr. James Stedman, on Page Mill Road, be approved. MOTION: Rothwell; SECOND: Fowle; ROLL CALL: AYESI Fowle, Hoefler, Rothwell, Mayor Treat 4-9-58 2, 3. i3-% NOES: None ABBE'?T: Bledsoe Traffic - Fremont, Edith, and Altos Avenues. Mayor Treat reported on a conversation with Colonel Goate regarding the traffic problem at Burke and Altos Avenues. Colonel Goats suggested that the stop sign on Altos Avenue be changed to the eastbound lane on Burke Avenue. There was considerable discussion on this intersection as well as the Robleda, Edith, and West Fremont intersections, comments being heard from Mr. James B. Zischke, Mr. John Daly, Mr. George Evans, the City Clerk, and members of the Council. It was agreed that the City Clerk be authorized to have the Califf forma State Automobile Association make a survey of the traffic problem in this area, giving them specific instructions that the Town is interested only in: gaining .information as .how to relieve the situation for people of the Town, and not a way to run more traffic through the Town. Roads - Mr. Martin Taaffe was commended for work done on the roads, and-Ehe good condition of the roads in spite of the extensive storm damage. 5. Adobe CreekLoy�d __e - Councilman Hoefler presented a brochure of the �Creek `k' Zodge announcing its opening date, the opening of a motel, and giving prices for aeeonmodations. It was stated that the owners of the Lodge have no use permit for such an operation. The City Attorney was asked for a statement regarding this situ- ation.
