TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS
MINUTES OF R7GULAR MEETING
January 6t►, 1958
The meeting was called to order by Deputy Mayor C. Easton Rothwell,
Monday, January 6tb, 1958 at 7:55 P. M. at the Town Hall, 26379 West
Fremont, Los Altos Hills.
ROLL CALL: PRESENT: Bledsoe, Fowle,'Hoefler, Deputy Mayor Rothwell
ABSENT: Mayor Treat
MINUTES: December_ 160, 1957.
ACTION:
Approve minutes of December 1629
1957 as presented.
CORRESPONDENCE:.
1. County Bounda_rY_. Commission -- "Yotice of proposed annexation of
area known as PSiramonte X,5 to the City of Mountain View.
2. C_it� of Los Altos - ',,Totice of meeting to be held at 8 P. M. ,
January 13-th,9 City Hall at Los Altos regarding recreation
needs in the Los .Altos area.
Commissioner Williams will represent the Town of Los Altos Hills
at this meeting.
3. Cit f Palo Alto - notice of meeting of the Joint Interim Com-
m ssion on�igg way Problems to be held in San Francisco on Thurs-
day and Friday, January 9tb and.l0tb to study progress in the Bay
Area in regard to pians for state wide freeway and expressway
system.
Councilman Fowle will represent the Town of Los Altos Hills at
this meeting.
4. Mayor Treat - Deputy Mayor Rothwell reported that he had received
correspondence from Mayor Treat stating that he will return by
January 23rd, 1958°
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Road Improvement and Drainage Fees.
Deputy Mayor Rothwell requested that the Committee make its re-
port at the next Council Meeting on January 20b, 1958 or the
present Committee will be dissolved.
2. Traffic Survey of West Fremont - Report by City Clerk.
The City Clerk reported that Mr. Kellogg of the California State
Automobile Association will submit his report on the traffic sur-
vey of West Fremont, from Altos Avenue to Arastradero Road, by
January 20%, 1958•

NEW BUSINESS:
1. Pressed Amendment to Ordinance;``� - City Attorney.
Attorney Bullis submitted a proposal to prohibit signs in the
Town of Los Altos Hills. He suggested that the existing sign
ordinance be repealed and that a new ordinance be drafted. The
City Attorney was directed, by the Council, to draft a new Sign
Ordinance.
2. Mrs. Irma Goldsmith - Report on Christmas Party and the Teen-age
qty.
Mrs. Goldsmith expressed her gratitude to the Council.
many citizens in the Town of Los Altos Hills, who

and decorations for next year.
Mrs. Goldsmith reported that the Teen-age party was a suecess.
She expressed the gratitude of the teen-agers of the Town to'the
City Council for granting -the use of the Town Hall for-the'party.
Deputy Mayor Rothwell extended to Mrs. Goldsmith the gratitude of
the City Council for her part in making the parties a success.
3. Automobile Registration.
Councilman Bledsoe suggested that each citizen of Los Altos Hills
give "Los Altos HiUs" as his address when paying autom-'.,i.le re-
gistrations. The Town receives a portion of this.revenue.
The City Clerk was asked to check with the California State
Motor Vehicle Department to determine if Los altos dills is
acceptable as a legal address.
4. Post Office - For the Town of Los Altos Hills.
The City Clerk was instructed to secure information regarding
the establishment of a branch post office in the Town, and. report
at the next meeting.
5. In Lieu Taxes.
The City Clerk was asked to report to the Council how the in lieu
tax is distributed to cities.
6. Assessment of Agricultural Lands.
Deputy Mayor Rothwell asked Councilmen Bledsoe and Hoefler to
work as a committee to determine if agricultural land assessments
are increased when adjoining newly developed lands.

7. Chief of Police McClelland - Testimonial Dinner to be held on

is retiring.
ACTION:
That Deputy Mayor Rothwell be authorized to draft a letter
to be read at the testimonial dinner.
MOTION: Fowle; SECOND: Bledsoe; VOTE: Passed uanimously
WARRANTS:
Bills, in the amount of $3007.84, were presented for pays
ACTION.:
That the Council approve the payment of bills presented, in
the amount of 0007.849 and that the City Clerk be authorized
to draw the appropriate warrants.
