MINUTES OF ADJOURNED MEETING
January 14, 1957
The meeting was called to order at Purissi.ma School on
Monday, January 14, 1957s, at 7:45 P.M. by Mayor Sidney W. Treat,
ROLL CALL:
MINUTES:
PRESENT: Mayor Sidney Treat, Councilmen Leighton M.
Bledsoe, Raymond 0. Hoefler, C. Easton Rothwell.
ABSENT: Councilman J. M. Fowle
The minutes were read and corrected. Following are
the corrections:
December 12, 1956:
Y 1. Page 2 - Mr. Stone deleted; anonymous doner.

The approval of the January 7, 1956 minutes was postponed
until the next meeting. The minutes were read with
the following correction:
1. Page 1 - meeting of the minutes to reading of same.
2. Page 3 - #14; Town Hall report to Finance report.
3. Page 5 - #17; Harf Tantau to Dart Tantau,
4, Page 8 - #5; Motion by Attorney Bullis changed
to Suggested by same,
5, Page 9 - second paragraph to read, "The Council
recessed, etc."
Third paragraph to read, "After the
adjournment of the Study Session the
regular meeting was resumed."
ORDER OF BUSINESS:
Bills: Santa Clara Construction Company - $215.47 BILLS
California Automobile Association- 142,63
Mrs. Rita Duval - rent - 150.00
Motion: Rothwell; Second: Hoefler; Vote: Approved
RECOMMENDATION:
That these bills be approved for payment. Carried
voice vote.

2) Freeway Committee: Mr. Cathcart was not ready to make his
report. It will be ready by the next meeting.
3) Vacancies on the Planning Commission: After much deliberation
the following names were submitted for the Planning Commissionts
approval:
William T. Powell, 25031 La Loma Drive, Los Altos Hills.
Motion: Mayor Treat; Second: Rothwell; Vote: Approved

Mayor Treat.

Mrs. Harold W. Williams 328 Burk Ave., Los Altos Hills,
Motion: Mayor Treat; Second: Bledsoe; Vote: Approved
ROLL CALL: AYES: Councilmen Rothwell, Hoefler, Bledsoe,
Mayor Treat.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: J. M. Fowle
41 Report on the Town Name was given by Councilman Rothwell.
Since there were only 35 replies to the request to call
in choices for the Town Name, it was the recommendation
of the Committee that the name of Los Altos Hills be retained.
Motion: Rothwell; Second: Bledsoe; Vote: Approved.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the name of Town of Los Altos Hills be retained and
that sincere thanks be expressed to those who served on the
committee. A letter of appreciation will be sent to Mrs.
Meridith, Mrs. Packard, and Mrs. Jones, Carried Voice Vote.
5) Progress Report on the Town Hall was given by Mayor Treat.
There may be a delay in the water connection as well as the
gas if the weather remains bad. The Council table is being
made specially for the new town hall,
Insurance on the Town Hall was discussed and there was some
question as to whether rates would be less if a sprinkler
system was installed in the furnance. Mr. Howe, the broker,
will be contacted by the City Clerk,

Reading of the Title of Ordinance #30 is sufficient and
therefore dispense with further reading.

7) Adoption of Ordinance for the amending of Ordinance #17. ADOPTION

11) Adoption of Ordinance #28

12) Ordinance #19 - Subdivision Ordinance
ORDINANCE #19
There will be a meeting on February 6, 1957, Wednesday,
7:45 P.M. at Purissima School, which will be a study session
on Ordinance #19. This is an open meeting.
There was a discussion about this Ordinance by Mr. Gutt,
Attorney Bullis, and the Council. Several questions were
referred to the City Attorney for study which in turn will
be referred back to the City Council. During the interim
period, the Ordinance is in effect.
13) Trucking Ordinance
Motion: Rothwell; Second: Hoefler; Vote: Approved
RECOMMENDATION:
That Attorney Bullis be authorized to employ Attorney Bledsoe
(Councilman Bledsoe) as counsel in connection with the entire
matter of the court action and deliberation of the trucking
ordinance, to serve without compensation, Carried voice vote.
14) Building Inspector, Councilman Hoefler explained all of the
ramifications of hiring a Building Inspector. The fees
collected will compensate for the salary of the Inspector and
will cost very little to the tax payers. It will be desireable
to select someone who can help the City Engineer and take over
some of the paper work.

That Resolution #31 be approved and a Building Inspector hired,

15) An announcement and invitation was extended to the City
Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills to attend a League
of California Cities meeting on Thursday, January 17, 1957,
at 7:30. The subject is "Planning of Metropolitan Areas"
and will be held at the Hawaiian Gardens, 1500 Almaden Rd.,
San Jose. This is a dinner meeting.
RECORD OF SURVEY MAPS
1) J. M. POWLE - This mag has the approvals of the Board of
Health, Planning Commission, and City Engineer.

2) HOLGER SPOHR
Motion: Hoefler; Second: Mayor Treat; Vote: Approved
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Record of Survey Map be approved as building sites
when Mr. Spohr gets approval from the Health Department.
Carried voice vote.
