A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS
AUTHORIZING TO APPROVE THE RECREATION SPECIALIST JOB
DESCRIPTION AND TO AMEND THE CLASSIFICATION AND COMPENSATION
PLAN
WHEREAS, the Personnel Rules and Regulations and Employee Classification and
Compensation Plan documents were last comprehensively reviewed and updated in 2006 and
revised and updated in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016; and
WHEREAS, the Parks &Recreation Department supports all Town events, activities and
recreation programs; and
WHEREAS, the Parks &Recreation Department has reached its capacity in managing the
growing demands of Town events and in providing support to community; and
WHEREAS, the City Council provided direction and adopted the 2016-17 Operating and
Capital Budget with the addition of one full-time Recreation Specialist to assist the Community
Services Supervisor to expand Town events, activities and support to the community; and
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the Town of Los Altos
Hills that the description of the typical duties and responsibility, training, experience and other
qualifications required for said position, more particularly set forth in Exhibit A, attached, is
made a part hereof, and are hereby approved and adopted.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills hereby
approve the Compensation Plan as set forth in Exhibit B.
The above and foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted by the City Council of the Town of
Los Altos Hills as a special meeting held on 201h of July, 2016 by the following vote:
AYES: Harpootlian, Waldeck, Corrigan, Radford, Spreen

COMMUNITY SERVICES SPECIALIST
Reports to: Community Services Supervisor FLSA: Non-exempt
Supervises: N/A
I. DESCRIPTION:
Under the general direction of the Community Services Supervisor, this position performs a
wide variety of assignments including the marketing, development and management of the
Town's Recreation Programs and Community Events. The Recreational Community
Services Specialist will be responsible for the daily operation and implementation of all
aspects of the Town's enrichment classes, camps, events marketing and promotion. This
position will perform a variety of special projects as assigned by the Community Services
Supervisor.
II. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Provide staff support to the Town's Park and Recreation Committee
• Provide support to the Joint Senior Commission and Youth Commission
• Assist with coordinating Town sponsored events
• Outreach to local schools,businesses and residents
• Implement phases of Donor Wall project
• Recommend and assist in the implementation of departmental goals and objectives
• Manage social media and corporate accounts i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Nextdoor,
Instagram, etc.
• Increase community involvement at Town events
• Develop and explore different avenues of community outreach
• Develop and manage publicity and promotion, prepare and distribute marketing
materials including press releases, brochures, flyers, banners, promotional collateral
and event schedules
• Public contact includes answering general inquiries

• Provide assistance in the preparation and administration of the Los Altos Hills Parks
and Recreation department annual budget
• Identify and coordinate opportunities to share resources with other governmental
agencies
III. ABILITIES:
• Encompass leadership skills and enthusiasm for community based programs, events
and activities
• Demonstrate superior organizational and planning skills
• Exhibit a high level of self-motivation
• Strong sense of time management
• Work independently and as part of a team
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, volunteer
committees, outside professionals and other employees
• Highly proficient in Adobe Suite
IV. QUALIFICATIONS:
• Education/experience:
Any combination of education and experience e that has provided the knowledge,
skills, and abilities necessary for a Recreation and Community Services Specialist. A
typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess a bachelor's degree
and one years of recreation, event planning and/or community services experiences.
• License/Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California Driver's License.
Possession of or ability to obtain the following certifications may be required
depending on assignment: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Automatic External
Defibrillator, Personal Emergency Preparedness (PEP), Community Emergency
Response Team (CERT).
