HomeMy WebLinkAbout80 s • RESOLUTION NO . 8 0 A RESOLUTION URGING PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION TO ESTABLISH AS A TOP PRIORITY FOR THE YEAR 1959 THE GRADE SEPARATION OF SAN ANTONIO ROAD AND THE . SOUTHERN PACIFIC RAILROAD TRACKS AND ALMA STREET IN THE COUNTY OF SANTA CLARA. WHEREAS, Section 189 of the Streets and Highways Code of the State of California provides that the Public Utilities Commission shall establish and furnish to the State Department of Public Works a list of crossings at grade of streets or roads and the tracks of any railroad corporation, in the order of prior- ity which the commission determines, and which are urgently in need of separation by grade separation structure; and WHEREAS, the crossing at grade of San Antonio, Road and the tracks of the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, and Alma Street adjacent to said tracks, which crossing lies partly with- in the unincorporated territory oftheCounty of Santa Clara, part- ly within the City of Mountain View, and partly within the City of Palo Alto, is urgently in need of such grade separation; and WHEREAS, said San Antonio Road is a major traffic art- ery in said County of Santa Clara, serving the cities of Mount- ain View, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and a large area of the unincorporated territory of the County of Santa Clara, and by reason of the extent of the area and cities so served has re- sulted in a serious condition of traffic congestion and hazard at the crossing of said road and the said railroad tracks and Alma Street; and WHEREAS, by reason of the anticipated increase in traf- fic congestion, and the increasing development of the areas ser- ved by said San Antonio Road, the said grade crossing will become increasingly more hazardous; NOW,. THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of the Town of Los Altos Hills; That the Public Utilities Commission of the State of III III -2- California is hereby urged to give serious consideration and immediate attention to the urgent need for a separation of grade structure at the crossing of San Antonio Road and the South- ern Pacific Railroad Company tracks and Alma Street in the County of Santa Clara; That the Commission is further urged to find and deter- mined that, by reason of the serious traffic congestion and haz- ardous condition resulting from said crossing at grade, the erect- ion or construction of a grade separation structure at said cross- ing is urgently needed and is entitled to the highest priority for the year 1959, and that the Department of Public Works of the State of California be so advised. The foregoing resolution was. duly and regularly adopted at a Regular Meeting of the City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills held at the Town Hall in said Town of Los Altos Hills on the 20th day of October, 1958 by the following vote : AYES: Councilmen Sherlock, Clayton, Mayor Fowle NOES: None ABSENT: Councilmen Bledsoe, Treat ayor Town of Los Altos Hills ATTEST: City-Clerk- 1 ity Clerk-_
