HomeMy WebLinkAbout64 RESOLUTION NO. 64 Vacation and Leave Policy for City Employees WHEREAS, in order to maintain high morale in the public service, and encourage high standards of performance and efficiency, be it therefore RESOLVED that all employees in the municipal service shall be eligible for annual vacation leave with pay, at the rate of five sixths (5/6) working days per month ten (10) working days per year. As an added incentive, each employee shall be granted an additional five (5) working days per year for each completed five (5) year period of employment, not to exceed a total of thirty (30) days. Each employee shall be required to have served the equiva- lent of one (1) year of continuous service in the city in order to be eligible for his annual vacation leave. ` In the event one or more municipal holidays fall within an annual vacation leave, such holidays shall not be charged as vacation leave, and the vacation leave shall be extended accordingly. Employees who terminate employment shall be paid in a lump sum for accrued vacation leave earned prior to the effective date of termination. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it shall be the policy of the Council that employees shall be credited with sick leave with pay at the rate of one (1) work day for each calendar month of service. Unused sick leave shall be accumulated at the rate of Twelve (12) days a year to a total of eighty (80) work days. Upon severance from the service, an employee is not entitled to receive payment for any unused sick leave. An employee who does not use his sick leave for a six- month's period is to be credited with an additional day of vacation. That special leave with pay may be granted by the City Council for employees to attend professional conferences and meetings, or to participate in some form of activity or training in the inter-- est of the City. Military leave shall beauthorized for employees who are members of the National Guard, Navy, Army, and other reserve compon- ents for a period not to exceed one hundred eighty (180) days and such wmployees shall receive full pay for up to fifteen (15) working days of said period. That if a City employee is called to jury duty, he may granted a leave of absence. with pay, provided that the department head has been notified of jury summons. That all municipal offices will be closed on the legal holidays, as setforth in the Government Code, designated;below: New Year' s Day January 1 Lincoln's Birthday February 12 `:'Washington's Birthday February 22 Memorial Day ' May 30 Independence Day July 4 . Labor Day • . . First Monday of September;. Admission Day '.September 9 Columbus Day October 12 Veterans ' Day November 11 Thanksgiving Day Last Thursday of November or date designated by the President Christmas Day December 25 Good Friday 12 Noon until 3:00 P. M. Every Statewide Election Day., 7- • Page 2 When a holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday shall be observed. Any holiday other than the above may be granted only by specific approval of the City Council.
