THE_CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS <br /> HILLS REGARDING THE CLOSING OF A PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WITHIN THE <br /> TOWN LIMITS <br /> WHEREAS, the Los Altos Elementary School District is holding hearings to <br /> determine whether to close one or more elementary schools in its district, and <br /> WHEREAS, one of these schools is the Gardiner Bullis Elementary School <br /> in Los Altos Hills, the last public school in Los Altos Hills, and <br /> WHEREAS, the Town of Los Altos Hills does strongly believe in the need <br /> for public school education within its Town, particularly at the elementary school <br /> level , and <br /> WHEREAS, the statistics used in the District's population study prelim- <br /> inary to the closing action are outdated, inaccurate by substantial margins and do <br /> not reflect the actual statistics, and <br /> WHEREAS, both Los Altos Hills and Santa Clara County have experienced very <br /> strong growth since the 1974 recession, and <br /> WHEREAS, birth rates have changed upwardly during recent years, and <br /> WHEREAS, the Los Altos Elementary School District made certain public <br /> assurances and promises to the citizens of Los Altos Hills at the closing of the <br /> ! Purissima School to the effect that they would not close Bullis, and <br /> WHEREAS, the General Plan of the Town of Los Altos Hills currently has <br /> the Bullis site for Open Space and elementary school use and, therefore, not available <br /> , for alternative development, and <br /> WHEREAS, the individual for whom the School 's name honors is still a <br /> resident of this Town, and <br /> WHEREAS, the demand for elementary school education is so strong that the <br /> private schools within the Town maintain waiting lists, and <br /> WHEREAS, the uncertainty and continued public vascillation of the Los Altos <br /> Elementary School District Board is demoralizing, discouraging and mentally abusive <br /> to the children enrolled in their schools. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the Town of Los <br /> Altos Hills does strongly recommend and encourage that the Los Altos Elementary <br />
