ORDINANCE NO, 5 AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS REGULATING THE ERECTION AND MAINTENANCE OF BILLBOARDS, SIGNS, POSTERS, PENNANTS AND SIMILAR MATTERS WITHIN THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION AND DECLARING THE EMERGENCY THEREOF. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS DOES OR- DAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. There shall be excepted from the provisions of this Ordinance any display, except for plainly advertising pur- poses, the flag of the United States of America and the flag of the State of California in any form whatsoever. SECTION 2. Except as hereinbefore provided no sign, bill- board, poster, pennant, flag or display unit shall be erected, displayed, established, or maintained within 500 ft. of any road, highway or street or public place within the boundaries of the Town of Los Altos Hills, of a size greater in area than six square feet nor in any multiple arrangement without first having obtained a permit therefor upon proper application from the City Council of the Town of Loa Altos Hills or designated agency thereof. SECTION 3. This Ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency rdinance necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and general welfare of the people of the Town of Los Altos Hills inasmuch as now only the general statutes of the State of California apply as to signs and these do not purport to be, nor are they intended in the opinion of this Council, to be applicable to the conditions as existing in the City boundaries. It is deemed likely that in the absence of the restrictions of this Ordinance the landscape of the area of the Town of Los Altos Hills might be desecrated by structures of the nature of signs to the great unhappiness end concern of the residents of said Town of Los Altos Hills. SECTION h. This Ordinance shall be read in its entirety and upon adoption become effective immediately and shall be posted In 3 public places within the Town of Los Altos Hills. SECTION 5. Violation of this Ordinance shall constitute a misdemeanor and shall be punishable by a fine not exceeding $300.00 or imprisonment not exceeding 30 days in such jail facilities as may be then established by the City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills. In addition to any other provisions hereof any structure or item as set forth in Section 2 hereof may be destroyed or removed by such officer, employee or agency as may be delegated therefor by the City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills or by the Chief of Police thereof.
