Councilmember Corrigan suggested a friendly amendment to the motion on the <br /> floor, as follows: ask the City Manager to negotiate with Alexander.Atkins to get <br /> the numbers closer in-line with his current contract, allowing for a cost of living <br /> increase of whatever is appropriate and get numbers up to something reasonable. <br /> Vice Mayor Waldeck did not accept the amendment to his motion. <br /> City Attorney Mattas stated that due to the Town's bidding and purchasing <br /> procedures, the motion should reflect a determination that the Atkins bid is the most <br /> advantageous. Vice Mayor Waldeck stated he would accept that as a friendly <br /> amendment. <br /> MOTION MADE AND SECONDED: Vice Mayor Waldeck moved to amend. <br /> and restate his motion as follows: authorize the City Manager to negotiate a contract <br /> with Alexander Atkins for the best price available for his services and not to:exceed <br /> the current estimate; and it is determined that Mr. Atkins bid is the most <br /> advantageous to the Town. The motion was seconded by Mayor Harpootlian. <br /> Motion Carried 4-1: <br /> AYES: Mayor Harpootlian, Vice Mayor Waldeck, Councilmember Radford, <br /> Councilmember Corrigan <br /> NOES: . Councilmember Spreen <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> ABSTAIN: None <br /> B. Discuss the Whipple Library Funds and the Recent Action by the Los Altos City <br /> Council <br /> Councilmember Corrigan asked Jim Lai to present the item. <br /> Los Altos Library Endowment (LALE) Member Jim Lai provided an <br /> explanation of the Whipple Funds. He suggested the Whipple Funds be transferred <br /> to LALE to earn higher returns. <br /> Council discussion ensued. <br /> Bob Simon, Los Altos, currently serves as a director of the Los Altos Library <br /> Endowment and served as president of the LALE board for many years. He said "it <br /> takes, a village to protect a deceased donor's wishes."
