ORDINANCE NO. 335 <br /> AN URGENCY ORDINANCE OF <br /> THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS <br /> AMENDING CHAPTER 3 OF TITLE 6 <br /> OF THE LOS ALTOS HILLS MUNICIPAL CODE <br /> BY ADDING PROVISIONS REGARDING <br /> UNIVERSAL GARBAGE SERVICE, <br /> UNLESS EXEMPTED BY THE CITY MANAGER, <br /> AND UNIVERSAL RECYCLING SERVICE <br /> WHEREAS, the Town is under the strict mandate of AB 989 to <br /> reduce its entire waste stream 25% by 1995 and 50% by 2000; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Town, along with all Bay Area municipalities, <br /> needs to do its part to conserve landfill space, avoid <br /> groundwater contamination, and avoid non-point discharge <br /> containing contamination that may originate in -creeks; and <br /> WHEREAS, universal garbage service' and universal recycling <br /> service benefit every individual by benefiting the entire <br /> community; and <br /> WHEREAS, the provisions of this ordinance need to go into <br /> effect immediately to protect the public health and safety; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the Town of Los Altos <br /> Hills does ORDAIN as follows: <br /> SECTION 1. AMENDMENT OF CODE. Chapter .3, "Garbage, Refuse, <br /> Swill, and Waste Matter, " of Title 6, entitled "Sanitation and <br /> Health, " of the Los Altos Hills Municipal Code is hereby amended <br /> by changing the title to "Garbage, Refuse, Swill, Waste Matter, <br /> and Recyclables. " <br /> SECTION 2. AMENDMENT OF CODE. Section 6-3. 01 entitled <br /> "Definitions" of Chapter 3, "Garbage, Refuse, Swill, Waste <br /> Matter, and Recyclables" of Title 6 entitled "Sanitation and <br /> Health" of the Los Altos Hills Municipal Code is hereby amended <br /> by adding Section (f) as follows: <br /> " <br /> (f) Recyclables" shall mean and include all <br /> materials which are, rejected, abandoned, or discarded <br /> by the owner or producer thereof which are capable of <br /> being recycled by the authorized scavenger. Recyc- <br /> lables shall include, but not be limited to, paper, <br /> bottles, cans, plastic and cardboard. <br /> 1 <br />
