Motion for Adoption: Motion setting November 6, 1985 as the Public Hearing Date on <br />the appeal of the Planning Commission's decision regarding setback determination <br />for Int #6, Bentley Court <br />PRESFSII'ATIONS FROM THE FLOOR: <br />Thomas McDevitt, Senior Class Vice President/Pinewood School, requested Council <br />approval of a school sponsored race on 12/8/85. In a letter dated 10/16/85 to <br />the Council, the race course was outlined and details of the event were given, <br />such as parking, safety and health arrangements. Sara Mates and Carie Bargman, <br />representative from Pineunod, also addressed the Council giving details of the <br />planned race. <br />Betsy Bertram, 11854 Page Mill Road, commended the students for their projects <br />but suggested that chile practicing for such running events, joggers were posing <br />a real traffic hazard. She suggested that letters be sent to all the schools <br />reminding them that joggers should run in a single file off the road. <br />ti MMON SECDNDED AMID FA=: Moved by van Tanelen, seconded by Dronkert and failed <br />ow by the following roll call vote to refer this matter to the Safety Committee for <br />immediate action and, if the committee thought appropriate, to draft a <br />a letter to the appropriate persons. <br />AYES: Mayor Dronkert and Councilmember van Tamelen <br />NOES: CouncilnEmbers Allison, Fiuhrman and Rydell <br />Council discussed the details of the race as presented by the students and requested <br />a follow up report from then on specific arrangements made with the Sheriff's Dept. <br />and the Palo Alto Police Department. Allison commended the students on the complete <br />report they had presented. <br />MOTION sccNEm AMID cmuum: Moved by Allison, seconded by FUhrmman and passed <br />unanimously to grant approval for the 12/8/85 Head for the Hills Race subject <br />to the execution of an agreement approved as to form by the Acting City Attorney. <br />Judith Carico, 25311 O'Keefe Lane, requested Council to set up an independent <br />public Meaning on tne issue or Measure E including a question/answer period on <br />the subject. Dronkert stated that the League of Vibmn Voters had already scheduled <br />such an informational meeting on the election. In line with this subject, the <br />Acting City Attorney noted that it world not be appropriate to use public funds <br />or public materials for such a meeting on an election issue. <br />-2- <br />
