State of California, Department of Finance, announcing the official <br />population of Los Altos Hills as of April 1, 1971 to be 6,925. <br />8. American District Telegraph Co, requesting the use of the Town Hall <br />to make a presentation on burglar and fire alarm systems. The City <br />Council referred this request to the Traffic and Public Safety Committee <br />for their sponsorship. <br />ANNOUNCEMUNTS: <br />1. Staff noted the donation of a new amplifier system from former Mayor <br />Wm. Ross Aiken. The Council requested their appreciation be expressed <br />to Mr. Aiken for his generous contribution and significant improvement <br />in the sound system. <br />2. Mrs. Irma C. Goldsmith reported on the printing of 1,000 pamphlets, <br />which were prepared to inform the equestrians of proper handling of <br />and caring for horses. Mrs. Goldsmith noted that she was able to save <br />$44.18 on the original estimated cost of $145.00 and suggested that <br />this amount be ear -marked for the printing of a trail map. Copies of <br />the pamphlet were distributed to the Council and audience. <br />SCHEDULED ITEM NO. 1: <br />MELTON, RICHARD B. UP -355-71) - REQUEST FOR USE PERMIT FOR BOARDING STABLE <br />AT 24970 O'KBEFE LANE. (M. Grupp, buyer) <br />City [.tanager reviewed the application for the Council and read the list of <br />conditions recommended by the Planning Commission. Floor discussion followed, <br />with participation by the following speaking in favor of the use permit: <br />Richard B. Melton, applicant, 24970 O'Keefe Lane; Morris Grupp and Eldon M. <br />Grupp, prospective buyer, 1965 - 16th Avenue, San Francisco; and Mrs. Irma C. <br />Goldsmith, 27330 Elena Road. <br />Those speaking in opposition to the use permit were: Pir, and Mrs. Maxfield <br />Brown, 12670 Dianne Drive; and Morgan McGilvray, 12823 Normandy Lane; <br />Mr. McGilvray also presented a petition containing 43 names opposing the <br />use permit; Mr, and Mrs. Robert M. Carico, 25311 O'Keefe Lane; George Seidman, <br />12690 Dianne Drive; Mrs. Louis F. Wilson, 25102 O'Keefe Lane; and Bert <br />Cppenheim, 12787 Normandy lane. <br />After general discussion by the City Council and with direction from the City <br />Attorney, it was concluded that the use permit could not be denied and that <br />the City Council could only spell out reasonable conditions which would apply <br />to the operation of the stable, since animal husbandry is one of the uses <br />allowed under the Town's Zoning Ordinance. <br />MOTION, SECONDED AND CARRIED: Councilman Grabowski moved, seconded by <br />Helgesson and carried unanimously to carry over the request of Richard B. <br />Melton (UP -355-71) to the July 19, 1971 meeting to allow time to consult <br />tbe with the City Attorney. <br />-2- <br />
