State of California, Department of Finance, announcing the official population of Los Altos Hills as of April 1, 1971 to be 6,925. 8. American District Telegraph Co, requesting the use of the Town Hall to make a presentation on burglar and fire alarm systems. The City Council referred this request to the Traffic and Public Safety Committee for their sponsorship. ANNOUNCEMUNTS: 1. Staff noted the donation of a new amplifier system from former Mayor Wm. Ross Aiken. The Council requested their appreciation be expressed to Mr. Aiken for his generous contribution and significant improvement in the sound system. 2. Mrs. Irma C. Goldsmith reported on the printing of 1,000 pamphlets, which were prepared to inform the equestrians of proper handling of and caring for horses. Mrs. Goldsmith noted that she was able to save $44.18 on the original estimated cost of $145.00 and suggested that this amount be ear -marked for the printing of a trail map. Copies of the pamphlet were distributed to the Council and audience. SCHEDULED ITEM NO. 1: MELTON, RICHARD B. UP -355-71) - REQUEST FOR USE PERMIT FOR BOARDING STABLE AT 24970 O'KBEFE LANE. (M. Grupp, buyer) City [.tanager reviewed the application for the Council and read the list of conditions recommended by the Planning Commission. Floor discussion followed, with participation by the following speaking in favor of the use permit: Richard B. Melton, applicant, 24970 O'Keefe Lane; Morris Grupp and Eldon M. Grupp, prospective buyer, 1965 - 16th Avenue, San Francisco; and Mrs. Irma C. Goldsmith, 27330 Elena Road. Those speaking in opposition to the use permit were: Pir, and Mrs. Maxfield Brown, 12670 Dianne Drive; and Morgan McGilvray, 12823 Normandy Lane; Mr. McGilvray also presented a petition containing 43 names opposing the use permit; Mr, and Mrs. Robert M. Carico, 25311 O'Keefe Lane; George Seidman, 12690 Dianne Drive; Mrs. Louis F. Wilson, 25102 O'Keefe Lane; and Bert Cppenheim, 12787 Normandy lane. After general discussion by the City Council and with direction from the City Attorney, it was concluded that the use permit could not be denied and that the City Council could only spell out reasonable conditions which would apply to the operation of the stable, since animal husbandry is one of the uses allowed under the Town's Zoning Ordinance. MOTION, SECONDED AND CARRIED: Councilman Grabowski moved, seconded by Helgesson and carried unanimously to carry over the request of Richard B. Melton (UP -355-71) to the July 19, 1971 meeting to allow time to consult tbe with the City Attorney. -2-
