OLD BUSINESS: Equestrian Underpass (Cont d.): It was discussed by the Council that any contribution should be made for an "acceptable" crossing and that the amount be based on a percentage of the 1965-66 fiscal budget.. AMENDED MOTION: That the Town of Los Altos Hills go on record as approving a contribution for an acceptable cross- ing of 1% of the next fiscal year's budget. AMENDED BY: Bowler Councilman Aiken preferred not to second the Motion and suggested the contribution be 3/4 of 1% of the budget, a more appropriate figure for the Town's budget. Councilman Bowler agreed to this further amendment, withdrawing his Motion. AMENDED MOTION: That the Town of Los .altos Hills go on record as approving a contribution for an acceptable crossing at the Page Mill cloverleaf of 3/4 of 1% of the 1965-66 fiscal budget. O AMENDED BY: Bowler; ACCEPTED BY: Aiken Following discussion on the Motion, Councilman Bowler stated the point must be made that whether or not all citizens approve of horses, the horses are here and an integral part of the rural atmosphere for which the Town was incorporated, and the Council nust make the kind of provision that makes for co -existence within the Town. Commissioner Hawley reported the Planning Commission has long been concerned on ways to encourage better tree planting along the streets to maintain the rural atmosphere of the Town and requested the -Council to appoint a committee, with ,experience in this field, to submit a comprehensive report as to kinds of trees and shrubs, cost of the plantings, and means of financing ( a community effort, i.e., Arbor Day), �---) plus a study to determine the cost to the Town in acquiring the necessary equipment to have the trees planted and maintained. -3-
