09 <br />After considerable discussion, it was decided that decision <br />be deferred until further study is made and receipt of <br />Mr. Ives' report. <br />Councilman Dungan suggested that the Finance Com- <br />mittee obtain figures from City Engineer McCandless as soon <br />as available and set about in determining interest rates <br />through a bank loan or bond issue. <br />Mayor Treat instructed the Finance Committee to <br />investigate the matter of truck route costs and financing <br />methods. <br />City Clerk Paulman reported that he will have <br />information on the preliminary estimate of the assessed <br />valuation on August 7, 1956• <br />A suggestion was made that the Road Committee <br />reconvene and be prepared to present more specific esti- <br />mates and answers to questions if possible at the next <br />meeting including economic effects on truckers and people <br />living on truck routes. <br />Mayor Treat directed City Engineer McCandless <br />to find out when the committee is to meet. <br />COMMENTS FROM THE FLOOR: <br />Mr. Baxter (Stonebrook Avenue): Re: Nuisance of Dust <br />How long must we wait for oiling and graveling <br />of roads after being dug for pipe work? <br />City Engineer McCandless was directed to inves- <br />tigate this matter. <br />Mr. George Keith (El Monte): After water mains were put <br />in, holes were left unfilled in front of his <br />property. City Engineer McCandless will also <br />look into this matter. <br />Mrs. Mark Hinton: Commented on purchase of additional <br />acres of land by quarry operators and increas- <br />ing cost of road maintenance. <br />The council acknowledged receipt of the Petition of Re- <br />ferendum dated July 16, 1956, consisting of 28 pages con- <br />taining pertinent affidavits protesting the adoption of <br />Ordinance No. 17.
